My thoughts on Cade & Cedarwood

February 24, 2019

As you may have seen, I have been so excited for the Wild Flower & Weeds collection. I picked them up on Friday. I wanted to wait until I could properly wear them to give my thoughts, so yesterday I started with Cade & Cedarwood. Mostly because I'm slightly OCD with certain things and have to have some kind of order - So alphabetical felt a sensible approach!

I was also eager to give Cade & Cedar wood a proper go as this was my favourite on first sniff, but soon 'turned' on the blotter to a rather unpleasant medicinal scent.
I was afraid I wasn't going to change my mind, initial application was rather underwhelming - slight spice, but nothing remarkable or very noticeable. I was convinced this one was a dud!
But after a few minutes, as it warmed and developed on my skin it unfurled to reveal a herbaceous, spicy delight. There is a medicinal quality, but on the skin this works beautifully; It's intoxicating and addictive, somehow familiar, yet totally unique.
This would almost boarder on sexy, but there is a sweetness that reigns in the seduction - an almost syrupy quality.

Looking at the official description, they do describe 'sensual' vanilla - Though it didn't quite go there for me.
I also sadly don't get the smoky or woody aspects come through on me, but have heard it described as smelling like a bonfire by some, on the Jo Malone Facebook groups!

I'm not sure on projection - I smelt it on myself all day, but not really been around other people to gauge reaction. About 10 hours after application I can still detect, although it has now become much sweeter.

An early contender for favourite of the collection, an addictive mix of herbaceous oils, syrupy resins, and an intoxicating sweetness.

Top notes are cade and elemi. Heart notes are cedarwood, rose and roasted oak. The base comprises of ciste labdanum, guaiac wood and vanilla.

The official description for Cade & Cedarwood:
The smouldering embers of a wood-burning stove at nightfall. Basking in the warm and comforting glow of cade, its smoky scent mingled with cedarwood and complemented by a mouth-watering hint of sensual vanilla.
