Fragrance of the Month: March - Blue Hyacinth.

Ok Ok, so I'm over 3 weeks behind... But amongst it all, here is the first of a new feature for my 'blog' 'Fragrance of the month.

Photo taken from my Instagram page.

Every spring, Jo Malone London release a limited edition set of five 30ml fragrances.

As is typical, the focus is the celebration of English culture.

Blue Hyacinth is from the 2017 collection, collectively known as ‘The Bloomsbury Collection’

Jo Malone London describe Blue Hyacinth as; Intoxicating bold blue hyacinth warmed by the sun entwined with the vibrancy of garden geraniums and woody vetiver.

I’ve chosen Blue Hyacinth as fragrance of the month for March for a few reasons. Practically, I’ve gotten a little behind in wearing last years collection - Using other fragrances I own, before I knew it the 2018 collection (English Fields) arrived!

So I thought it was about time I properly explored this collection.

But there is also something about this fragrance that just suits March - A floral that hints at the spring to come, but a warmth the mirrors the scents we tend to choose for the colder months. For me this felt like the perfect transitional scent. Blue Hyacinth really packs a punch - This is exactly how I imagine Blue would smell like! The burst of blue soon dissipates into a sophisticated floral, with enough body and a slight edge to not be a feminine floral. Sadly my nose seems to miss the geranium - Which is extremely disappointing to me as geranium is one of my all time favourite scents! Instead I'm greeted by a warm dry down, that remains close to the skin. I'm not disappointed by Blue Hyacinth, but I do wish it's punchy opening was more prolonged and that I could detect the geranium. I also wish Blue Hyacinth was in the bottle for Garden Water Lillies, and vice versa! The visit to a lush spring English garden this scent evokes may be short lived, but the intimacy of the same garden by night, will still leave a memorable impression.
